Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions we hear from operators.
What size are standard bar glasses?
It depends on the drink. Many of our rocks glasses run from 7.25 oz to 10.5 oz, such as the GRAND-STACK Rocks Glass at 10.5 oz, with the GRAND-STACK Double Old Fashioned Rocks Glass at 13.5 oz for bigger pours. Hi-ball glasses hold about 9.5 to 12.75 oz, like the ISTANBUL Hi-Ball Glass, and cooler glasses run 16 to 19 oz. Shot glasses are 1 to 2 oz, and beer glasses go from 12 oz, like the CAPRI Beer Glass, up to the 23 oz giant PILSNER.
What is the difference between a coupe and a martini glass?
Both are stemmed cocktail glasses, but the shape is different. A martini glass has a wide, conical bowl, like the 7.8 oz TIMELESS Martini Glass, while a coupe has a shallow, rounded bowl that is less likely to spill, like the TIMELESS Coupe Glass at 9 oz. Bars often pour daiquiris, Manhattans, and other stirred drinks in a coupe. For a smaller, more upright pour, the TIMELESS Nick & Nora Cocktail Glass holds 5.5 oz.
What is a nonic glass, and is it tempered?
A nonic glass is a pub-style pint glass with a bulge near the rim. The bulge helps protect the lip from chipping and keeps stacked glasses from sticking together. Browne's NONIC Pub Glass holds 20 oz and is fully tempered clear glass, and the GRAND-STACK Hi-Ball Glass is tempered and stackable too. Tempering strengthens the glass so it stands up better to the knocks of a busy bar, which is why pubs and taprooms use it for beer. Both are sold in packs of 12, so restocking is easy.
